Cookie Policy

How Ooni uses cookies and similar technologies

Last updated: 28 April 2026

⚠ This is the pre-launch version. Today the Ooni website does not run any analytics, advertising or third-party tracking. The only persistent storage we set is the record of your cookie choice itself. This policy will be updated when that changes.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies

“Cookies” and similar technologies are small files or storage entries that a website places on your device. They can be used to remember your preferences, keep you signed in, measure how the site is used, or deliver personalised content. In this policy, the term “cookies” covers traditional HTTP cookies as well as comparable mechanisms such as localStorage and sessionStorage in your browser.

2. Categories we use

We organise cookies into three categories. Strictly necessary entries do not require your consent under the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive; analytics and marketing entries only activate after you opt in through the cookie banner.

3. What we actually set today

At the time of this update, the only entry we write to your browser is the consent record itself.

We do not currently load Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, or any equivalent. We do not currently use third-party CDNs for fonts or scripts; everything is served from the same domain as the website. If we add any of those in the future, this policy and the cookie banner will be updated to reflect it before they activate.

4. How to manage or withdraw your choice

You can change your preferences at any time by clicking Cookie settings in the footer of any page on this site. You can also clear the entry directly from your browser’s storage tools, in which case the banner will reappear on your next visit. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that took place before the withdrawal.

5. Server logs

Independently of cookies, our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-lived server logs that may include your IP address, request path, user-agent string and timestamp. These logs are kept only for the time necessary to operate the service and to investigate security incidents, in accordance with our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. They are not used for analytics or profiling.

6. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy whenever we add, remove, or change a category of cookies. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page indicates the most recent version. Material changes will be communicated through the cookie banner so that we can collect a fresh consent before any new analytics or marketing entry is set.
